Stuff-a-bus Christmas season with News19 and the Salvation Army


Details on how and when to register and donate.

COLUMBIA, SC – Stuff-a-Bus is back in the South Carolina Midlands! As Christmas approaches, News19 will work again with The Salvation Army to provide for families who otherwise may not have gifts under the tree.

The event will be behind the wheel due to COVID-19 and registrations will be by appointment or online. Registration begins Monday for Orangeburg, Sumter and Manning and the following week in Columbia.

Documents and information required

  • Valid photo ID for the person making the request
  • One piece of identification for each person in the household. Examples: birth certificate, social security card, Medicaid card, green card
  • Proof of all household income, or an approved DSS print or SNAP benefit letter
  • Proof of all household expenses (previous bills or the current month). Must show residence in Sumter, Clarendon or Lee counties. Clothing and shoe sizes and wish list for each child 10 and under.


Documents and information required

  • Identity document with photo of the head of the family.
  • Identity cards for all persons residing in the household. The following pieces of identification may be used: US Driver’s License, Social Security Card, State-issued Non-Driver ID Card, US Passport, Employee ID Card, School ID Card , health insurance card, Medicare, consular matricula ID card, US military ID card, birth certificate.
  • Proof of age for each child 12 years of age or under. Only children 12 and under can receive Christmas gifts. Birth certificates or other official documents can be used as proof of age.
  • If your household is currently eligible for food stamps (SNAP), bring your EBT card and a recent food purchase receipt using your card. With the benefits of food stamps (SNAP), the information below is not necessary.
  • Proof of all household income in the last 30 days Examples include pay stubs, unemployment declaration, SSI disability, Social Security declaration, VA or other pensions.
  • Anyone 18 years of age or older and not receiving any income must show proof of zero salary. (A zero pay slip from the unemployment office).
  • Proof of all household expenses paid in the last 30 days (not the bills you owe, but the bills that have been paid).


The public will have the chance to donate at Walmarts around the Midlands on December 3 and 10. The provisional timetable is as follows:
